Narconon
®
scam on Public Radio
I was half listening to a Public radio station while in my car
yesterday and I heard the announcer making what sounded like a
public service anouncement. It had to do with drug problems and
a drug rehab program. It sounded like he said Narconon but I
wasn't sure and so I called the station and talked with the
announcer.
Sure enough it was Narconon. I told this announcer that Narconon
was a phoney drug rehab program and was, in fact, a front group for
the Scientology
®
cult. Today I called this station and talked with
the person who handles public service announcements and this person
babbled something about this announcement coming in the mail.
I told this person that Narconon was a phoney drug rehab program
and was, in fact, a front recruiting group for the Scientology cult.
I strongly urged the station to issue a disclaimer and she promised
to bring the matter to the attention of the station Mgt..
There was a phone number given out in this 'Public Service'
announcement. 1-800-556-8885. I called there and spoke with a
Frank Montero. This Narconon is in California in Watsonville, I
believe. After explaining that I had a family meember with a drug
problem I was told that the Narconon program costs $23,000. And
-- get this -- they will come and do an intervention.
I didn't get the price on this. Montero skillfully avoided my
questions about who ran Narconon and who was behind it etc. He
directed me to their website at www.drugrehab.net. Guess who is
there... Kirstie Alley and Chick Corea. There is no mention of
the cult on this website but the courses listed for enrollees
include the Communcation Course and the TRs.
I Intend to file a complaint with state authorities here and I ask
those of you in Calif. to do the same. I ask for advice as to the
best agencies to file complaints like this... State's Attorney,
State Board of Health or who? If some one will follow through on
this in CAL. I will back up the charges here and give a statement
that I heard their phoney 'Public Service' announcements on the
radio here.
It is time that we all actively did something about these scam
front groups.
